Description
Jingdezhen Hand-Painted Gaiwan: Blue & White Pomegranate (160ml / 5.4 oz)
This one-of-a-kind gaiwan is a testament to traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Hand-thrown and hand-painted in Jingdezhen, it combines the vibrant art of underglaze red with classic cobalt blue. The two-piece design includes a perfectly fitted bowl and a domed lid, engineered to sit seamlessly within the rim while brewing.
Exquisite Coin Pattern & Pomegranate Motifs
The body of the bowl is covered in a continuous, interlocking copper coin pattern that leaves almost no white space. Set against this dense background are elegant, Ruyi-shaped framed panels (cartouches). Inside each panel, a branch of pomegranates is painted in vibrant underglaze red, with the leaves and stems rendered in cobalt blue.
- The Pomegranates: Most panels feature two plump fruits. One is often depicted as split open, revealing its seeds. The seeds are not painted but are formed by the natural reserved white space of the porcelain, making them appear incredibly distinct.
- The Lid: The domed lid mirrors the body’s design, featuring three framed panels arranged in a circle around a flat, unpainted central knob.
- Interior Design: The inside of the bowl differs from the exterior. The inner rim is decorated with just two delicate blue lines, leaving the walls mostly blank. At the very center, a blue circle frames a branch with three pomegranates clustered at the tip, with more leaves than flowers.
